The Leadership Gap PureSpring Institute Seeks to Address

The modern church is experiencing a significant leadership gap—one that has left entire generations of believers without the apostolic and prophetic leadership needed for maturity, mission, and movement.

For centuries, the Church has functioned primarily under the pastor-teacher model, largely neglecting two of the foundational and catalytic leadership gifts that Paul identified in Ephesians 4:11-13—apostles and prophets. While pastors and teachers shepherd and instruct, they were never meant to be the only leadership forces guiding the Body of Christ.

The Result? A Church Out of Balance

  • An inward-focused Church—where maintaining structures and serving members has been prioritized over advancing the Kingdom.
  • A knowledge-driven model—where theology is valued, but apostolic action and prophetic insight are missing.
  • Spiritual immaturity—where believers remain dependent on “getting fed” instead of becoming equipped to lead and disciple nations.
  • Lack of bold, visionary leadership—where the pioneering, culture-shifting influence of apostles and prophets has been absent.
  • Mission Drift—where churches have become centers of teaching and gathering rather than bases of sending and equipping.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:11-16 that all five gifts—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—are needed for the Church to move from infancy to full maturity. Yet, for hundreds of years, the Church has largely ignored the first two foundational gifts, apostles and prophets, even though they are explicitly identified as essential to the foundation of the Church (Ephesians 2:20).

Why Apostolic & Prophetic Leadership is Needed Today

Throughout history, whenever the Church has lacked strong apostolic and prophetic leadership, it has drifted from its mission.
1. The Reformation (1500s) restored the role of teachers in the Church, emphasizing Scripture-based faith. However, this unintentionally created a knowledge-based model that sidelined apostolic and prophetic functions.
2. The Pastoral Era (1700s-Present) led to institutionalized church structures that made pastors the primary authority figures, reducing the Church’s outward movement and focus on mission.

But what happens when we restore apostles and prophets?

  • Apostles restore Kingdom expansion, leadership multiplication, and movement building.
  • Prophets bring spiritual discernment, vision, and direction.
When these gifts are missing, churches become places of maintenance rather than mission.
This is why PureSpring Institute (PSI) exists—to bridge the leadership gap by equipping and commissioning apostles and prophets for global impact.

At PureSpring Institute, we are committed to raising up global leaders on the foundation of Christ, His apostles, and prophets (Ephesians 2:20).
